China launches ambitious Tianwen-1 Mars rover mission | Space

China’s first fully homegrown Mars mission is on its way to the Red Planet.

The Tianwen-1 mission launched atop a Long March 5 rocket from Hainan Island’s Wenchang Satellite Launch Center this morning (July 23) at 12:41 a.m. EDT (0441 GMT).

Tianwen-1 consists of an orbiter and a lander/rover duo, a combination of craft that had never before launched together toward the Red Planet. The ambition of Tianwen-1 is especially striking given that it’s China’s first stab at a full-on Mars mission. (The nation did launch a Red Planet orbiter called Yinghuo-1 in November 2011, but the spacecraft flew piggyback with Russia’s Phobos-Grunt mission. And that launch failed, leaving the probes trapped in Earth orbit.)

Trump has been right about China for YEARS!

China is a geopolitical adversary, not a “trading partner”.  And China bears FULL responsibility for the Wuhan flu pandemic that has devastated the world economy. US companies like Nike, Apple, and the NBA should be forced to find alternative markets and supply chains immediately.  Important strategic goods like pharmaceuticals, PPE, and medical equipment should be “in-sourced” back to the United States. Our continued dependance on China is a threat to national security.

Back in the summer of 2015, all the cleverest people made fun of Donald Trump for obsessing about China. One of them even made a video compilation of the candidate saying ‘China’ over and over again on the hustings. Ha ha ha.

It seems distinctly less funny now. There is a reason that the novel coronavirus is popularly denominated the Wuhan flu or CCP virus. As Bill Gertz observed in How China’s Communist Party Made the World Sick, ‘the world does not need to prove that the communist regime in Beijing was responsible for the escape of the coronavirus from a lab’ in order to cast a jaundiced eye upon its many malefactions. ‘It is now clear,’ he writes, ‘that decades of international engagement and cooperation with communist China was a mistake that seriously undermined fundamental American values of freedom, democracy, openness, honesty, and free markets.

No known case of teacher catching coronavirus from pupils, says UK Scientist

The NEA, local teachers unions, and the Democratic Party are conspiring to keep American kids out of school.  The science says otherwise.  Because it’s not about what’s best for the children – it’s about what’s best for the Leftist Elites. It’s an example of politics over principle.  It’s a campaign to hurt Trump’s reelection chances.  Nothing more.

There has been no recorded case of a teacher catching the coronavirus from a pupil anywhere in the world, according to one of the government’s leading scientific advisers.

Mark Woolhouse, a leading epidemiologist and member of the government’s Sage committee, told The Times that it may have been a mistake to close schools in March given the limited role children play in spreading the virus.

Portland Activist Calls for ‘Abolition’ of the United States

She’s intolerant and narcissistic. There can be no reasoning with her, because she is not interested in the discussion.  Her ideas must be defeated.  Most of us like America just the way it is . . .

“My name is Lilith Sinclair, I’m an Afro-Indigenous non-binary local organizer here in Portland, organizing for the abolition of not just the militarized police state but also the United States as we know it,” Sinclair declares in a brief video that went viral on Twitter. She also called Portland “stolen land,” proceeding to give Native Americans a “land acknowledgment.” By the way, she also identifies herself as a “sex worker,” i.e. a prostitute.

Tom Cotton Compares Antifa to Confederate Rebels

Senator Cotton is speaking of the rioters and anarchists, not protesters exercising their 1st Amendment rights to “peaceably” assemble, as the Founders intended.

On Tuesday, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) compared the anarchist and antifa “insurrectionists” on the streets of Portland to the Confederate insurrectionists who rebelled against the Constitution, sparking the Civil War. This comparison led left-leaning pundits to demonize the senator, mock him, and suggest that he wanted to “go to war with Portland.”

“The federal government cannot allow anarchists and insurrectionists to destroy federal courthouses, federal buildings, or other federal property,” Cotton began, speaking on Fox & Friends. “These insurrectionists in the streets of Portland are little different from the insurrectionists who seceded from the Union in 1861 in South Carolina and tried to take over Fort Sumter. And just like President Lincoln wouldn’t stand for that, the federal government today cannot stand for the vandalism, the firebombing, or any attacks on federal property.”
